Performing Arts Center

The performing arts center for the City of Mesquite was designed to accommodate local arts groups. The highly successful facility started life as a medical office building that had fallen into disrepair and was creatively renovated by architecture firm Milton Powell & Partners. The facility houses a 400-seat music performance hall, 100-seat black box theatre, and rehearsal spaces. The layout of the new building is a box shape surrounding a courtyard that is used for outdoor jazz concerts.
The principle scope of WJHW's work was acoustical consulting and mechanical noise isolation. This included detailing of vibration and noise isolation of rooftop mechanical equipment, control of noise from building plumbing and hydraulic elevator equipment, and sound isolation between performance spaces and exterior roadway noise.

| Acoustically Jim Johnson, of WJHW, provided guidance on room finishes, space shaping, and material usage in the performance spaces. Due to the creative use of existing spaces and cost-effective building techniques, this 37,000 square foot project was constructed for approximately $100 per square foot. |
